Vivid, familiar images and three-dimensional shapes combine to help students connect geometry to their world! Display shapes in their flat forms (nets) to teach symmetry and surface area, or fold the nets into the clear solids to highlight the presence of geometric shapes in everyday life. Whether they’re visualizing soup cans in cylinders for the very first time or learning basic geometry concepts, students will find a new shape adventure awaiting them around every curve, edge and vertex!
Note: To avoid tearing the shapes, do not twist them. To secure the bases, match the marks on the bases to the corresponding marks on the clear shape casings.
Activities:
Mix and Match—Divide the nets into one pile and the solid shapes into another. Challenge students to match the nets to the shapes without folding them. Then, check their answers by folding the nets into the shapes. Afterward, discuss the similarities and differences among the shapes.
Everyday Exchange—Display each illustrated solid on a table. Discuss other real-world objects that share the same shapes as those in the set. Have students look for these similar objects in the classroom and place them beside the illustrated shapes for comparison. (Students may also point to the classroom objects if they aren’t movable.) For further opportunities for comparison, invite children to bring more objects from home that share the same shapes as those in the set
Shape Gallery—Have students trace around the nets on sheets of paper. Then, let students illustrate their own shapes, following either the designs in the set or their own imaginations. Encourage students to include difficult-to-position details such as ribbons on a gift or layers on a cake. Cut and fold the nets into three-dimensional shapes, arranging them in an artistic display for discussion—and appreciation!
Face to Face—Place all the shapes on a table and discuss the similarities and differences among them. Get students thinking by asking questions such as, “Which shapes come to a point? Which shapes have mostly rectangular faces?” Draw or photocopy a Venn diagram for a dynamic visual aid!
Vital Vocabulary—Display all the illustrated solids and introduce words such as face, edge and vertex. Use the shapes as examples during discussion. To add fun to any geometry lesson, substitute Real World Folding Geometric Shapes for ordinary three-dimensional shapes!

    Farmer's Market Color Sorting Set
Little gardeners develop color recognition and sorting skills!

    30-Piece set includes:
    • 5 Bushel baskets (4"H x 5.5"D
    • 25 Pieces of play food
    • Stickers for labeling

    Fruits and vegetables include:
    • Red: apple, grapes, raspberries, strawberry, tomato
    • Yellow: apple, banana, corn, lemon, pepper
    • Orange: apricot, carrot, Clementine, pepper, pumpkin
    • Green: apple, broccoli, cucumber, lime, pepper
    • Purple: berries, eggplant, grapes, onion, plum
    Suggested Activities
    • Set up a Farmer’s Market. Have children role play being the buyer and the seller of the fruits and vegetables.
    • Practice and develop counting skills by having children place the food items in the bushel baskets. Ask children to count aloud as they place each food item in a basket.
    • Develop color identification by naming the colors of the fruits and vegetables. Encourage children to find other objects in the room that are the same color as one of the fruits or vegetables. As they search for matching-color objects, children should carry along the food item for self-checking.
    • Sort the fruits and vegetables by color. Put food items into the matching-color bushel baskets. Make sorting easier by starting with only two colors. As children become more confident in sorting two colors, add in another color. Once your  child has mastered sorting by color, try sorting the play foods by fruits and vegetables. For additional sorting opportunities, write colors or food items on the included stickers and apply them to the appropriate baskets.
    • Play a fun guessing game by setting out three or four food items in a row. Give your child clues regarding the characteristics of one fruit or vegetable, and see if he or she can guess which object you’re describing. Try to provide clues involving attributes, such as color, size, whether the food has seeds, where the food grows, and so on.
    • Where do foods come from? Choose a food from the set and talk about where it grows: Does it grow on a tree? Does it grow underground? How about above ground?
    • Play “What’s Missing?” to develop thinking and memory skills. Place four or five foods in a line. Have your child turn away while you remove one of the foods. When your child turns around, have him or her determine which food is missing.
    • Listening and following directions are essential skills for young learners. Have children listen as you state a one-step direction, such as, “Find the red apple.” Watch to ensure the child performs the task correctly. Perform one-step directions several times before moving on to two-step directions, such as, “Find the red apple and find the green broccoli.”
    • Make word cards to correspond with the fruits and vegetables in the set. Have children match each food item with its correct word card. If children are not ready for whole words, make cards featuring the beginning letter sounds only.

    L3071.jpgShape Sorting Presents

Wrap some fun around shape sorting! Sort photo cards into uniquely shaped gift boxes.

/ Builds shape recognition, vocabulary and early math skills/ Self-checking cards feature shape outlines on reverse/ Includes 6 boxes, 90 cards and Activity Guide/ Largest box measures 5.5"L x 4"W x 3”H/ Ages 3-8/

    Suggested Activities
Sorting—Set up all the boxes with the lids on and have children sort the shape cards into the correct boxes. When children have sorted all the cards, empty the boxes one at a time. Children can self-check their answers by looking at the shapes on the backs of the cards.
Pick a Card—Put the shape cards in a pile. Have children pick out one card at a time, name the shape, and place it in the correct box. Take turns picking cards and placing them in the correct boxes.
Sort, Match, and Classify—Place the shape cards, face up, on a table. Have children sort the cards into groups of the same shape. Discuss the attributes of the shapes such as straight sides, corners, curved sides, and so on. Then, set the shape boxes on the table and have children put the shape cards into the correct shape boxes.
Shape Hunting—Give a child one shape box with a lid. Have the child find something in the classroom that is the same shape and can fit in the box. Bring the box back to the rest of the class and have them guess what is in the box.
Repeat this activity for all the shape boxes.
Can You Guess?Place all the cards of one shape into the matching box. Reach into the box and pull out a card; do not let children see the card. Give clues to the object’s identity. For example, if you have the clock card, you could say, “It is shaped like a circle. We have one in our classroom. It has numbers on it. We use it to tell time.” Repeat this activity for all the shape cards.
    Intervention Strategies
Make It Simple—If sorting into all six shape boxes is too difficult for your child, reduce the number of boxes. You can also reduce the number of cards to sort. • Shape Walk—To further emphasize shapes in the “real world,” have children go on a “shape walk” either in the classroom, school, or neighborhood. Give each child a box or a card to hold while walking. Encourage them to find a real-world shape that matches. As you walk with the children, ask them to point out and name different shapes they see. You could also take pictures of the objects and print them to make a shape book.
Same and Different—Set out three cards of the same shape and one card of a different shape. Ask children to figure out which ones are the same and which one is different. Repeat this activity using different cards.
Shape Collage—Have children cut out pictures from magazines that show different shapes. Then, glue these pictures onto a piece of paper to make a shape collage.

Attribute Applesencourages and develops sorting skills, pattern relationships, and recognition of similarities and differences. This 27-piece set includes apples in three sizes with attributes such as color (red, green, yellow), and a variety of physical characteristics such as stems, leaves, and worms.

    Apple Activities
    Color Sorting
    — Sort the apples into groups by color. How many are in each group? (Each group contains nine apples: three of each physical characteristic and size.) Sort the color groups into smaller groups based on size, or the physical characteristics of stem, leaf, and worm. Make comparisons between the new groups.
Size and Attribute Sorting — Sort the apples by size or physical characteristic.
Divide and Compare — Sort the small, medium, and large apples into three separate groups. How many apples are there in each group? How many different groups can you separate the apples into? Are there any relationships between groups? (Each group contains three apples with stems.) Continue exploring to find more relationships between the groups.
What’s Missing? — Create apple patterns with missing parts of the sequence. Try to complete the pattern and fill in the missing pieces. There are many possibilities; experiment with color, size, and physical attributes.
Create a Pattern — Create patterns of size, color, and physical characteristics.
Pick an Apple — Select an apple at random. Then, describe it in terms of three attributes (e.g., the apple is small, yellow, and has a worm). Perform this activity with apples of many different attributes.
Same and Different — Set out three apples that have a common attribute and one that has a different attribute. Ask students to find the apple that has a different attribute than the others.
Attribute Chain — Create a chain of apples, changing one attribute at a time. For example, if the first apple is small, green, and has a worm, the second could be medium, green, with a worm, and so on. Continue building the chain as far as it will go.
Counting with Attributes — Say a number such as “four” and an attribute such as “leaf.” Ask students if they can find four
apples with leaves. Encourage students to compare the similarities and the differences between the apples they selected. Repeat this activity with different numbers and attributes.

Grouping Exercises — Draw a Venn diagram on a sheet of paper. Use the diagram to show the relationships between different attribute groups. Sort the apples using the diagram. Continue creating different Venn diagrams to compare,

The Graphic Organizer Pocket Chart was designed to help teach students how to organize their thoughts. This can be used for multiple grade levels and subject areas. These charts are great to compare similarities and differences among many different topics studied in the classroom.
Graphic Organizers are research-based instructional tools to use to organize thoughts when writing, brainstorming, or testing.
The Venn Diagram is a common way to organize information. It is made up of two or more overlapping circles. It is often used in mathematics to show relationships between sets. In language arts instruction, Venn Diagrams are useful for examining similarities and differences in characters, stories, poems, etc.
A Venn Diagram is frequently used as a prewriting activity to enable students to organize their thoughts prior to writing a compare and contrast essay. This activity enables students to organize similarities and differences visually, before writing about them.
T-Charts are a type of graphic organizer in which a student lists and examines two parts of a topic, such as the pros and cons associated with it, its advantages and disadvantages, facts vs. opinions, etc. Use the blank cards provided and start organizing the students’ thoughts. When not in use, the two large pockets offer easy storage. The possibilities of the Graphic Organizer Pocket Chart are endless!

    Magnetic Time Activity Set
Build a giant demo clock on your whiteboard so the whole class can see!
    ·         Durable plastic clock hands are geared to move in accurate increments for hands-on reinforcement
    ·         Supports differentiation and assessment as you and your students remove and replace magnetic foam numbers
    ·         Correlates to National Math Standards
    ·         Minute hand measures 2.5"L x 11"H; numbers approximately 4"H
    ·         Grades K+

This Magnetic Time Activity Set is an ideal tool for any classroom. The durable, plastic clock hands are geared to help students understand the relationship between hours and minutes. The clock hands and numbers can be used for demonstration on any
magnetic surface such as whiteboards or chalkboards. The large size allows for easy viewing from anywhere in the classroom.
    Setting up the clock:
To set up the clock, attach the hands to the whiteboard. Make sure you have a large enough area to place the numbers around the hands. Set the clock to 12:00 and place the number 12 at this position. Next, set the clock to 1:00 and place the number 1 at
the ‘hour’ position. Repeat this process to set up the remaining clock numbers.
    Suggested activities:
    Learning Connections

Point out the features of the clock to students. The hour hand is short and it is red. The minute hand is long and it is blue. Demonstrate how to hold onto the ‘knob’ on the minute hand to get the clock hands to move. Have students practice moving the geared clock hands. Make sure to point out and discuss that when the minute hand moves, so does the hour hand. The hands work together to show the relationship between minutes and hours.
    Telling Time
Practice telling time using the clock hands and numbers. Set up the clock on a magnetic surface and say a time (such as 2:00) for students to display. Start with times to the hour and then progress to minutes. It is best to start telling time by every hour and half hour, then move into quarter hours, then five minutes and finally minute increments. Use specific math vocabulary such as “quarter past”, “quarter till”, “half past”, etc.
    Elapsed Time
By using the geared clock hands, students can have hands-on practice with the concept of elapsed time. Attach the clock hands to a whiteboard and place the numbers in the correct positions. Students can practice determining elapsed time by solving problems posed by the teacher. For example, “If school begins at 8:00 and ends at 3:30, how much time are you at school?” or “The movie started at 7:00 and ended at 9:00. How long was the movie?” Students can move the clock hands to the starting time and then move the clock ahead hour by hour to the ending time. When you can no longer move
ahead a full hour, start the hands moving in ten or five-minute increments and then add all the hours and the minutes that go by.
    Changing Clock Faces
Provide students with opportunities to “see” different clock face formats by setting up the clock, removing the magnetic numbers, and writing either Roman numbers or military time numbers in the correct places. Students can practice telling time using the different representations.

Magnetic Graphing Paper   Save time! No need to draw graph lines by hand on your whiteboard anymore!
Makes whole-class demonstrations quick and easy with pre-lined oversize sheets, which can combine vertically or horizontally.
Accommodates a variety of data with expansive write & wipe surfaces that can combine vertically or horizontally.
    Measures 20"L x 14"H with 2" grid squares.          Set of 2.

Magnetic write-and-wipe graphing paper helps save time performing daily classroom activities. The preprinted graph allows teachers to move quickly from one lesson to another without having to redraw the graph on the board.

Each magnetic sheet has ten rows across. Use sheets individually or put them together for a larger graph. The magnetic paper is made of a strong magnetic material and will affix to any magnetic board in the classroom. Also, use with any magnetic surface such as a metal chart stand or metal door. Classrooms without a chalkboard or write-and-wipe board can use the magnetic graphing paper as a supplemental board. Clean the board surface before the magnetic paper is affixed to the board. This will help prevent dust buildup behind the board. The paper should stay in place without slipping or moving on the board.

Customize the versatile graphing paper to meet any classroom need. The graphing paper has multiple uses:
    • Set up a proper line or bar graph
    • Create an appropriate graph for a math lesson
    • Poll the class and make a graph of the results

Write on the magnetic graphing paper with a dry-erase or wet-erase marker. Test your marker on a corner of the magnetic paper before starting an activity. Erase weterase marks with a damp cloth and do not saturate the page. Too much water will warp the paper. Store the magnetic graphing paper flat to prevent it from warping or tearing. If the chart is bent of folded, the paper will wrinkle and not return to the original state. If the edge of the paper curls, gently roll it in the opposite direction to flatten.

Math vocabulary game for 4 or more players -  Includes: 120 Math vocabulary cards, Spinner, Minute timer,  2 Sketch boards, Score pad, 2 Markers, 20 Blank cards. Three levels of vocabulary cards are included in this game:
    • Blue cards—grade 2
    • Orange cards—grade 3
    • Purple cards—grade 4
Object of the Game - Earn the most points by correctly guessing math vocabulary words!
Setup - Divide into two teams of two or more players. Place the appropriate color card deck in the middle of the game area with the sketch boards, spinner, score pad, timer, and markers.
    Game Play -
    1. Determine which team will go first.
    2. One player from the first team spins the spinner to determine the method of describing the vocabulary  word to his or her team.
    3. The same player then draws a card from the top of the deck and reads it silently. The team now has 60  seconds to guess the word, with the reader’s assistance.
    4. The opposing team flips the timer over as the reader begins describing the word.
    5. If the team correctly guesses the word, they earn 1 point. Return the card to the bottom of the pile; it is now the next team’s turn.
How to Win  -  The first team to reach 10 points wins the game!
    Spinner
All play—One player from each team sketches the same word. The first team to guess the word correctly earns 1 point and takes another turn.
Author—Read the definition. Then, your teammates try to guess the vocabulary word.
Actor—Act out the word (like charades). You may not speak or write words but you may use sound effects.
Artist—Using the sketch board, draw images to describe the word. Refer to the sketch on the card for help.
Hint—Read the hint given on the card aloud. Then, your teammates try and guess the word.
Choose—Choose any of the ways to describe the word.
Alternative Game Play  -  Create your own list of math words with the blank cards included.
Note: The write-on/wipe-off sketch boards should only be used with the included markers or other wet-erase
markers. Test your marker on the corner of one card to ensure that your marker does not leave a permanent mark.
Use a damp cloth when removing marks from the cards. Cards will warp if saturated with water.
